Approved uses

What is Victoza approved to treat?

Adults with type 2 diabetes, together with diet and exercise, to improve blood sugar.

Labeled maintenance: 1.2 mg once daily, or 1.8 mg where blood sugar needs more help

Children age 10 and older with type 2 diabetes, together with diet and exercise.

Labeled maintenance: Steps of 0.6 mg, a week apart, to no more than 1.8 mg once daily

Adults with type 2 diabetes and heart risk, to lower the risk of heart attack, stroke and heart-related death.

Labeled maintenance: 1.2 mg or 1.8 mg once daily

Not an approved use: The Victoza label does not cover weight loss. It also says that taking it alongside another liraglutide product is not recommended, which rules out running it with Saxenda.

Same medicine, different label

How is Victoza different from Saxenda?

Two brand names use this drug. Victoza is the one for type 2 diabetes. Saxenda is the one for weight-related care. Their dose plans are not the same.
