Ask for a quote for your exact prescription and how you plan to pay. Costco and Amazon explain their online price lookups; other chains may need a direct request. A price from one pharmacy is not a national price for that drug.

How do you compare two pharmacy quotes fairly?
Use the same prescription and way of paying. A different strength, quantity, location or way of paying is a different price.
- Use the same brand, dosage form, strength and quantity.
- Set the same pickup location or delivery address.
- Compare cash with cash, or have both pharmacies process the same insurance.
- Ask for the final total on the same day. An online estimate is not a guarantee.
What can you check before going to the counter?
Costco and Amazon explain their price lookups. Walgreens describes a discount-card tool. The checked CVS, Walmart and Sam’s Club pages were unreadable, so their online pricing options remain unverified here.
